The confession room

An installation by Danelle Janse van Rensburg and Nico Prinsloo
20 September to 25 September 2019

Danelle Janse van Rensburg and Nico Prinsloo both studied Fine Arts at TUT until 2006.  They share a love for installation art so they created The Confession Room specifically for the Pretoria Arts Association’s Black Box.  This very dark and intimate space contributes to the title and concept as they opted to create a moment of peace - the single seat invites one to sit and reflect.  Danelle’s work has always carried a strong female voice.  Nico creates thought-provoking art often associated with social injustice, inequality and consumerism.

Together the deconstructed and tied-up animal parts, in both the embroidered and sculptural pieces, signify a type of bonding.  Nico’s bronzes refer to the impermanent nature of consumption as well as the damage caused by plastic while Danelle's interpretation leans more towards the scores of women and girls being treated as waste themselves.   Overall the piece represents the war against waste.
