75 Year celebrations (exhibition of work by artists between the ages of 20 and 40 years)

The Association of Arts Pretoria will celebrate its 75^th anniversary in September and to crown this event, we are started with the first of a series of exhibitions on Saturday 30 July 2022.
 
On 27 September 1947, just two years after the end of the Second World War, the South African Association of Arts Northern Transvaal was established.  The moving spirit behind the establishment of the Arts Association and its various branches was Mr Charles te Water, who also became its first president.  Among the two dozen or so who were present at the first meeting were Walter Battiss, Le Roux Smith le Roux, Norman Eaton and Erich Mayer.
 
Over the years the Association moved from Polley’s Arcade to the Old Netherlands Bank Building on Church Square, then into the magnificent gallery on the 36^th floor of the (then) newly built ABSA building, before the current gallery in Mackie Street was built.  Over the years most artists in Pretoria have been actively involved in the workings of this organisation. 
 
To celebrate this milestone the Association of Arts Pretoria is showcasing a series of exhibitions of artists of various age groups that pay homage to the wealth of talent that makes up this association – the first being an exhibition by artists between the ages of 20 and 40 years.
