/ Sunday morning recital

Les Cordes Partout presents ... MOSTLY BACH ...

The intensely beautiful and expressive Trio Sonata in G major for two traversos and continuo exists in a number of forms: as a Sonata for viola da gamba and harpsichord and partially as an organ trio. No-one seems to agree which came first! This really doesn't matter as this finely wrought masterpiece can communicate Bach's creativity in many forms.  The Brandenburg Concerto no.5 with its challenging harpsichord cadenza never fails to dazzle an audience. The transparent scoring for traverso, solo violin, harpsichord and strings, each specified by Bach as one player per part, affords much space for colourful and imaginative textures. In between, a work based on Zimbabwean Mbira music will take the listener into another world but somehow subtly connected to Bach's trio and concerto.  The title 'Cutting branches for temporary shelter' was popularised by the 'Penguin Café Orchestra'. This ensemble emanated from a ballet concerned with plight of endangered species.  Come and enjoy a richly varied programme ... a good way to spend a Sunday morning!
