Marinda du Toit

Marinda started making three-dimensional work seventeen years ago.  Her characters, made from found objects such as wood, plastic, textile, steel, etc., are well known in South Africa and has been included in private collections, museums and several collections abroad.  These characters always delivered subtle and sometimes comical comments on humankind in their posture, dress as well as their titles. 
 
With this exhibition Du Toit will introduce new work that she has been developing since 2020. These sculptures still have the elements of upcycling, found objects and repurposing of alien objects, but applied in a different way.  The new sculptures can form part of a bigger installation but can also stand individually.
 
With Du Toit’s background in performance art, composing music and clowning the sculptures gives one a feeling of a street parade, a performance dance and celebration.
